Wisconsin dairy organizations file lawsuit against state’s Attorney General

Wisconsin Dairy Groups Sue State Attorney General

Two Wisconsin dairy organizations, the Wisconsin Dairy Alliance and the Venture Dairy Cooperative, have filed a lawsuit against State Attorney General Josh Kaul. They challenge Kaul’s decision to outsource the department’s environmental litigation work to a private contract attorney funded by the New York University State Energy and Environmental Impact Center, supported by Michael Bloomberg.

Kim Bremer, Executive Director of Venture Dairy Cooperative, claims that this partnership violates constitutional principles and undermines the rights of farmers in the state. The dairy groups argue that such agreements raise questions about the influence of special interest groups on state attorneys and advocate for better enforcement of environmental laws without outsourcing to private entities.

Attorney General Kaul defended the agreement, stating that better resourcing environmental law enforcement should not be controversial. The lawsuit was filed in Calumet County circuit court. The Attorney General’s office issued a response, emphasizing their commitment to protecting clean air and water in Wisconsin communities.
