March Issue Now Available: Wisconsin Supper Club Criteria Defined | MADISON MAGAZINE

Wisconsin is known for its iconic supper clubs, but what exactly makes a supper club a true Wisconsin establishment? A recent poll conducted by Madison Magazine revealed that elements such as a complimentary relish cup, wood paneling, house Old-fashioned, and regulars at the bar are agreed-upon standards. However, beyond these basics, there are 135 must-have elements that define a Wisconsin supper club according to respondents.

In addition to exploring the essence of supper clubs, the upcoming issue of Madison Magazine will also feature a guide by Emma Waldinger on developing a stronger sense of place within the unique ecology and natural environment of the Madison area. From bird migration in spring to lake care in summer, the guide offers ways to appreciate the local landscapes and ecologies.

Other stories in the March issue include the best places to work in Madison, a look at the beloved Bucky Badger mascot, the resurgence of ribbon skirts worn by Indigenous women, a review of a westside seafood restaurant serving spicy clam chowder, and a retrospective on the origins of the satirical newspaper, “The Onion.”
