Fifty-two entries from 25 communities across Wisconsin have advanced to the semi-final round of the annual Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest. The contestants were selected based on their innovative business ideas and diverse range of industries represented, including advanced manufacturing, business services, information technology, and life sciences. These plans showcase the state’s traditional and emerging strengths in various high-growth sectors of the economy.
The semi-finalists will now write 1,000-word executive summaries detailing their core product or service, target customer base, market size, competition, management team, and financial data. Following Phase 2 judging in March, the top contestants will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to accredited investors through the Tech Council Investor Networks. The top 12 contestants will present at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference in June, where category winners and the Grand Prize Winner will be announced.
Sponsors, including the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., are providing cash prizes and in-kind services to support the contestants. The total value of cash and prizes awarded over time is about $2.9 million. Lead sponsors for the 2025 contest include Phil Ouellette OES Implementer, Pieper Properties, SCORE, Spencer X Smith, Ward4, and Quarles & Brady, among others. The Wisconsin Technology Council is also an associate sponsor.
