Riverside clerk transitions to new role as administrator in Wisconsin

Riverside Village Clerk Ethan Sowl has resigned after three years to become assistant village manager in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. His replacement, Emily Stenzel, who has been with the village since May 2023, will take on dual roles as clerk and special assistant to administration and finance. Despite Stenzel’s qualifications, there is acknowledgment of Sowl’s institutional knowledge and contributions during his tenure. Sowl first started as an intern in 2021 and was appointed clerk in 2022. Riverside’s first full-time clerk, Cathy Haley, served until 2012, when Riverside transitioned from elected to appointed clerk positions. Riverside Village Manager Jessica Frances praised Sowl’s contributions and said the village is excited for his new role in Elm Grove. Sowl’s departure signifies a loss for Riverside, as he leaves behind a wealth of institutional knowledge and experience. Stenzel will take on the responsibilities of responding to FOIA requests, filing election records, and maintaining business and liquor license records. Frances expressed confidence in Stenzel’s abilities to succeed in her new roles.
