The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is encouraging residents to show their love for nature by donating to the Endangered Resources Fund. Donations made through the Wisconsin income tax form are matched and go directly towards conserving rare plants, animals, and state natural areas. The fund supports the DNR’s conservation efforts to prevent the loss of species across the state and collaborate with volunteers and partners.
Over 400 wildlife species and 300 plant species in Wisconsin are endangered, threatened, or declining. Donations to the fund have helped species like the bald eagle, little brown bat, Eastern prairie fringed orchid, and rusty patched bumble bee. These donations also support efforts to control invasive species and maintain state natural areas, which provide refuge to many endangered and threatened species.
To donate, residents can look for the “Donations” line on their Wisconsin income tax form and select “Endangered Resources” in Schedule 3, Part 1a. Donations are tax-deductible and matched dollar for dollar, making every contribution impactful in protecting Wisconsin’s natural resources. More information about the Endangered Resources Fund and the work of the DNR’s Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation can be found on their website.
