Gregory Peter Le Sage, a resident of San Ramon and a Stanford University engineer, recently published his debut novel, “Quantum Eschaton”. The cyber-thriller, released in October, tells the story of engineer James Cathcart who makes a groundbreaking discovery in quantum computing. The novel centers on the aftermath of Cathcart’s achievement catching the attention of a morally ambiguous executive named Seth, who manipulates Cathcart into a dangerous plan involving stealing technology and orchestrating a heist to steal £100 million from the Bank of England.
The repercussions of the heist are global, igniting suspicion and a realization that quantum technology could upend society’s secure systems. As the plot unfolds, Cathcart grapples with moral dilemmas and manipulation while battling his longing for acceptance. Le Sage drew inspiration for the novel from his observations at the federal SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford, where top engineers were being hired away by tech giants like Amazon and Google.
Despite originally starting the story as a screenplay, Le Sage pivoted to the novel format, with the help of his daughter and an Indian editing company. Now, he is working on promoting “Quantum Eschaton” and planning his next book about artificial intelligence in the future. “The Lighter Side of Horse Manure”, “Pieces of Me”, “Boys, A Rescue Plan: Moving Beyond the Politics of Masculinity to Healthy Male Development”, and “Headless in London” are examples of other recent books by Tri-Valley authors, showcasing the wealth of original writing coming out of the region.
