Wisconsin women’s hockey secures series sweep against Gophers with impressive win

Casey O’Brien led the top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a 6-1 victory over the No. 3 Gophers, with a goal and four assists. The Badgers completed a regular-season sweep of the Gophers and have now won eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams. Wisconsin outscored the Gophers 23-6 in the four games this season.

After a scoreless first period, the Badgers dominated with four second-period goals, including a shorthanded goal by O’Brien. Claire Enright and Vivien Jungels also scored for Wisconsin. Emma Conner scored the lone goal for the Gophers, who have lost three in a row.

The Badgers, who are now 16-0-2 in their past 18 games, are currently leading the WCHA with a record of 29-1-2. The Gophers will play a home-and-home series with St. Cloud State before finishing the regular season at Minnesota Duluth. Wisconsin’s strong performance against a top-ranked opponent further solidifies their position as a dominant force in women’s college hockey.
