Trump insists Palestinians must evacuate Gaza before meeting with Netanyahu

President Donald Trump suggested that the people of Gaza, which has been devastated by the Israel-Hamas war, should consider leaving and living elsewhere. He believes they would be better off moving to neighboring Egypt or Jordan. However, his proposal has been rejected by these countries and others in the region. Trump referred to Gaza as a “demolition site” and expressed that its inhabitants would be “thrilled” to live elsewhere, rather than in the ruins they currently reside in.

Trump made these comments ahead of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was at the White House to discuss various issues, including defeating Hamas and handling the Iranian threat. The two leaders previously had a strained relationship, but appeared to have reconciled during this meeting. The meeting came after a violent conflict between Israel and Hamas, which resulted in a significant death toll and displacement of Palestinians.

The U.S. helped broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and the next phase of the agreement was expected to be a topic of discussion during the meeting. Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, mentioned the challenges of rebuilding Gaza due to the damage caused by the conflict, suggesting that it could take up to 15 years. The meeting underscored the close alliance between Israel and the United States, as well as the challenges faced in the region.
