Snow accumulation expected to return to Western Wisconsin

Residents in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, experienced record high temperatures earlier this week, but are now bracing for winter weather as snow is expected to hit the Chippewa Valley over the weekend. The snow is expected to start in the early afternoon for northern counties on Saturday and become more widespread later in the evening and overnight.

Forecast models suggest that areas in the northern part of the region such as Rusk, Barron, Taylor, and Polk could see higher snow accumulations due to better moisture levels. Southern areas, especially south of I-94, may experience drier air which could limit snow accumulation. Eau Claire is on the edge of receiving anywhere from a trace to 2 inches, while areas south of I-94 are likely to see just a trace to 1 inch.

The snow may briefly switch over to rain on Sunday before tapering off in the morning, leaving behind mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the forecast through the First Alert weather page or by downloading the 13 First Alert weather app.
