The University of Wisconsin is investigating allegations made by former women’s basketball player Tessa Towers against coach Marisa Moseley and her staff. Towers, who played for Wisconsin from 2022 to ’24, took to TikTok to claim that her freshman year was marred by mistreatment, including being put on new medications weekly and being forced to undergo testing for autism. She also said that the coach made her sign a release form to access her therapy sessions or face expulsion from the team.
The Wisconsin athletic department released a statement expressing their concern for the well-being of all student-athletes and stating that they will look into Towers’ allegations. Federal privacy laws prevent them from publicly addressing the health-related claims made on social media. Towers also revealed that she was excluded from team trips and practices, leaving her in tears after interactions with the coach.
Moseley, who has a record of 44-68 at Wisconsin, has not responded to the allegations publicly. The team is currently struggling with a 10-10 overall record and an 1-8 record in the Big Ten. Towers transferred to Ball State after appearing in just four games for Wisconsin and has since been averaging 3.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in the current season.
The university is taking these allegations seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure the well-being of all student-athletes under Moseley’s leadership.
