NCAA Facing Lawsuit from Wisconsin CB Nyzier Fourqurean Over Eligibility Issues

Wisconsin cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA seeking additional years of eligibility. In the lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Western District of Wisconsin, Fourqurean argues that certain NCAA rules related to eligibility and transfer limitations violate the Sherman Antitrust Act. Fourqurean claims that his time at Division II Grand Valley State unfairly limited his ability to make money from his name, image, and likeness. The lawsuit comes after Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia was granted an injunction to pursue another year of eligibility in a similar case against the NCAA. Fourqurean, who has been training for Wisconsin’s pro day, filed the lawsuit after the NCAA denied a request for a hardship waiver that was made on his behalf by Wisconsin. Fourqurean stated that he had the support of Wisconsin’s staff and planned to use only one additional year of eligibility if granted. The NCAA and Wisconsin declined to comment on the lawsuit. Fourqurean’s case has the potential to be another landmark decision that could impact student-athletes at the lower levels of collegiate sports. The NCAA has not responded to a request for comment on the matter at this time.
