Wisconsin lawmakers reintroduce agricultural lemon law proposal

Wisconsin legislators have put forth a proposal to introduce a farm implement lemon law that would protect farmers in the state. The bill would allow farmers to receive a replacement or a full refund for implements of husbandry that have had multiple repairs or have been out of service for at least thirty days. This legislation mirrors Wisconsin’s existing lemon law for automobiles and light trucks.

Similar bills have been brought forward in the past, but have not been passed by the Senate. However, the newly introduced Senate Bill 8 already has seventeen cosponsors in both the Senate and Assembly. The proposed law aims to provide farmers with protection for their expensive farm equipment, which is crucial for their operations.

Several other states already have farm equipment lemon laws in place, including Arkansas, South Dakota, Illinois, and Minnesota. If the bill is passed, Wisconsin would join these states in providing legal recourse for farmers experiencing issues with their farm implements.
