Investigation launched by Wisconsin into former player’s accusations of coach Marisa Moseley’s mistreatment

Wisconsin is investigating allegations made by former women’s basketball player Tessa Towers against coach Marisa Moseley and her staff. Towers, who played for Wisconsin from 2022-24, claimed on TikTok that her freshman year was “completely ruined” due to mistreatment. She alleged being treated like a lab rat by the coaching staff, including being put on new medications frequently at the age of 17. Towers also accused the coach of forcing her to sign a release form for access to her therapy sessions and offering a choice between admitting herself to a mental hospital or being kicked off the team.

The Wisconsin athletic department stated that federal privacy laws prevent them from publicly addressing the health-related claims made by Towers. Moseley, with a record of 44-68 in four seasons, has not had a winning season at Wisconsin since 2010-11. Towers, who transferred to Ball State, cited being excluded from team trips and being emotionally affected by her interactions with the coach.

In Oklahoma, a proposal requiring parents to provide proof of their child’s U.S. citizenship or legal immigration status when enrolling in public schools is being considered by the state’s education board. State Superintendent Ryan Walters supports this proposal, which aims to align with President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. The plan has sparked criticism from teachers, civil liberty groups, and immigrant communities for causing fear and uncertainty among families. Despite the intention to keep track of students’ legal status, the proposal does not bar undocumented students from attending schools.
