The clip showed Paustian criticizing Trump’s pick for the Department of Health and Human Services during a class, sparking outrage online. The professor’s comments received backlash from the school’s College Republicans chapter, Rep. Bryan Steil, and Wisconsin state Sen. Julian Bradley.
Paustian later clarified that his remarks were a joke and expressed regret, acknowledging that they were in poor taste. The university spokesperson confirmed that the professor apologized to his students for the comments.
The incident raised concerns about the appropriateness of political comments in a public university setting. Paustian’s research focuses on microbiology education and helping students improve their performance on exams.
