Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair, Ben Wikler, has announced his candidacy for the position of Democratic National Committee Chair in the upcoming election on Feb. 1. Wikler has been leading the Democratic Party of Wisconsin for over five years, during which he has built a large permanent staff and raised over $100 million to support Democratic candidates in elections. He will be running against Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chair Ken Martin and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, both of whom are top candidates for the race, according to AP.
Wikler’s campaign plan focuses on running the national party similarly to how the Wisconsin campaign has been run, with a “50-state strategy” in mind. He emphasizes the need for a national permanent campaign, aiming to unite, fight, and win in all states. His campaign site details a plan to organize, fundraise, and win in local, state, and federal races in red, blue, and purple states. Wikler believes that the success of the Democratic Party in Wisconsin can be replicated across the United States.
