Video: Ben Wikler, a Wisconsin Democrat, announces his candidacy for the next DNC leader position

Ben Wikler, the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, has officially entered the race to become the next leader of the Democratic National Committee. In a recent interview with CNN’s Manu Raju on “Inside Politics,” Wikler announced his candidacy, becoming the fourth person to do so.

Wikler emphasized the importance of unity within the Democratic Party and the need to fight for the values that are important to Democrats. He noted that the party must come together to combat challenges such as voter suppression and attempts to undermine democracy.

As chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, Wikler has experience leading and organizing at the state level. Under his leadership, the party has made significant gains in Wisconsin, including winning the state in the 2020 presidential election.

Wikler’s entry into the race for DNC Chair adds to the growing list of candidates vying for the position. He joins Jaime Harrison, the former chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party; Rep. Filemon Vela of Texas; and Liz Jaff, a Democratic strategist, in the race.

The next DNC Chair will be tasked with uniting the party ahead of crucial midterm elections in 2022 and the 2024 presidential election. With the Democratic Party facing challenges on multiple fronts, including ongoing Republican efforts to restrict voting rights, the next leader will need to be prepared to lead the party through a period of significant political turmoil.

As Ben Wikler throws his hat into the ring, the race for DNC Chair continues to gain momentum, with candidates vying to lead the party into a new era of Democratic politics.
