Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Ben Wikler has announced his bid for the position of Democratic National Committee chairman, joining a list of candidates that includes Ken Martin of Minnesota, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, and New York state Sen. James Skoufis. The current chair, Jaime Harrison, is not seeking another term. In an interview with WISN 12 News, Wikler expressed his optimism about his chances of winning the position, noting that there are 448 voting members of the DNC and that he has already received significant support. He highlighted the need for a more robust Democratic Party, emphasizing the importance of building a big tent, organizing, and communicating effectively to reach voters. Wikler, who has been the chairman of the Wisconsin party since 2019, has been credited with raising nearly $200 million, the most of any state party chair. The election for the new DNC chair is set to take place on Feb. 1, with more than 400 members expected to vote. Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth noted that there is a desire for change within the organization and that candidates are bringing new ideas to the table. Wikler’s candidacy represents a pivotal moment for the DNC as it looks to unify, fight, and win in the upcoming elections.
