Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler announced his campaign for the chair of the Democratic National Committee, aiming to strengthen the party after recent losses. Wikler emphasized the need for a big tent approach to reach voters, particularly in battleground states like Wisconsin.
Despite President-elect Donald Trump flipping Wisconsin in the last election, Wikler highlighted the minimal shift towards the Republican candidate in the state compared to others. As chair of the state party, Wikler’s tenure has seen success with winning statewide races and fundraising efforts that outpaced Republicans.
Wikler joins a competitive field of candidates vying for the DNC chair position. The party is set to choose a new chair in February, with other potential candidates including former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin.
The race for DNC chair is gaining momentum as Democrats aim to rebuild and strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
