Ben Wikler, the current chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, has announced his bid to become the chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). He is the fourth person to announce their bid for the position, joining other candidates such as New York State Sen. James Skoufis and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. Wikler, who has been leading the Wisconsin Democratic party since 2019, stated that in order to take on Donald Trump and Republican extremists, the Democratic Party needs to be stronger.
He emphasized the importance of building a big tent, organizing and communicating effectively, and reaching out to voters who may be getting their news about Democrats from Republicans. The Wisconsin GOP chairman, Brian Schimming, criticized Wikler’s bid, highlighting the failures of the Wisconsin Democrats in recent elections. Voting for the new DNC chair is scheduled to take place on Feb. 1. Wikler’s campaign is focused on uniting the party, fighting for progressive values, and ultimately winning against the Republican opposition.
