The reason AP reached out to Wisconsin and the White House for Donald Trump

In a stunning turn of events, the Associated Press has declared Republican Donald Trump as the winner of Wisconsin, securing his return to the White House once the remaining uncounted votes from the greater Milwaukee area were determined to be insufficient for Vice President Kamala Harris to overtake him. This victory in Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes, combined with earlier wins in Pennsylvania, pushed Trump past the 270-vote threshold needed to reclaim the presidency.

Although Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania were seen as Harris’s most straightforward path to victory, the AP had already called Pennsylvania for Trump earlier in the night. With a significant number of uncounted ballots in Milwaukee and Racine counties, Harris would have needed to overwhelmingly win these votes to catch up to Trump. Despite some favorable results in Racine, it was ultimately not enough for Harris to close the gap.

Trump’s lead in the solid Republican stronghold counties in southeastern Wisconsin, as well as in northeastern Wisconsin, including Green Bay’s Brown County, contributed to the AP’s call. Harris was trailing behind Biden’s 2020 performance across all geographic regions and political spectra in Wisconsin.

Both Trump and Harris had made frequent campaign stops in Wisconsin, recognizing its significance as a battleground state in presidential elections. The margin of victory in previous contests was always razor-thin, underscoring the state’s importance in national politics.
