In a historic game, the Georgia Bulldogs pulled off an incredible fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 44-42 in an eight-overtime thriller. After falling behind 17-0 at halftime, the Bulldogs rallied back behind quarterback Carson Beck’s five touchdown passes. Despite never leading until after regulation, Georgia managed to secure the win in the longest game in SEC history. The victory may have solidified the Bulldogs’ spot in the College Football Playoff, regardless of their performance in the upcoming SEC championship game.
Haynes King led Georgia Tech with three rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns, but it was not enough to end their seven-game losing streak to Georgia. After scoring a seemingly comfortable 27-13 lead with just over five minutes remaining, Georgia Tech faltered, allowing the Bulldogs to tie the game late in regulation.
The game extended into multiple overtime periods, with both teams matching each other with touchdown passes and conventional extra points. It finally came down to 2-point conversions in the eighth overtime, where freshman Nate Frazier ran in the game-winning score for the Bulldogs. The marathon game fell just one overtime short of the record for any FBS game, but it will be remembered as an epic clash between two fierce rivals that went down to the wire.
