Wisconsin’s election commission leader, Ann Jacobs, quietly certified Donald Trump’s victory in the state with 1,697,626 votes compared to Democrat Kamala Harris’ 1,668,229 votes. The certification comes after Trump’s refusal to accept Joe Biden’s win in the state during the chaotic aftermath of the 2020 election. Trump forced a recount in two Democratic strongholds, but it did not change the outcome. His subsequent lawsuits to disqualify over 221,000 ballots were dismissed by both the state Supreme Court and a federal judge.
Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos hired former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to investigate allegations of fraud, but the probe found nothing. Gableman now faces sanctions for violating rules of conduct during the investigation. The election commission’s nonpartisan administrator, Meagan Wolfe, has also faced baseless conspiracy theories and attempts by Republican legislators to remove her from her position.
