Trump secures victory by winning Wisconsin, a crucial Midwestern battleground

Former President Donald Trump has defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in Wisconsin, according to a projection by NBC News. This victory denies Democrats a crucial part of their “blue wall” of Northern states needed to secure victory in the presidential race. Trump managed to flip Wisconsin in this election, as he did in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, after losing it narrowly to Joe Biden four years ago. Polls leading up to Election Day had shown Harris and Trump in a tight race within the margin of error in Wisconsin, reflecting the competitiveness of battleground states in this election.

Both Harris and Trump campaigned extensively in Wisconsin, visiting various parts of the state and focusing on all types of voters. Trump even campaigned in traditionally Democrat strongholds, trying to narrow margins in those areas. This strategic move, along with support in rural areas, helped him secure the victory in Wisconsin. On the other hand, Harris tried to make inroads with conservative voters by visiting Ripon, the birthplace of the Republican Party, and was even joined by prominent Republican figure Liz Cheney at a rally.

Trump’s two wins in Wisconsin mark the only Republican victories at the presidential level since 1984, aside from Barack Obama’s wins in 2008 and 2012. Historically, Wisconsin has been a state where presidential races are decided by narrow margins, often less than 1 percentage point. Trump’s win in Wisconsin is a significant setback for Democrats and underscores the importance of winning battleground states in a presidential election.
