Unusual weather phenomenon involving a factory in Wisconsin led to heavy snow across a 100-mile stretch. The National Weather Service reported that steam and tiny particles emitted from a factory near Menomonie combined with optimal air temperatures for ice snow formation, resulting in a narrow band of snow that extended from Eau Claire County southeast for nearly 100 miles. The low clouds interacting with the steam added more moisture to the air, causing precipitation in the form of snow. The snowfall led to hazardous road conditions and a crash on Interstate 94 in Eau Claire County. Additionally, the Portage power plant also produced snow flurries in a similar manner on Thanksgiving Day. Meanwhile, scattered snow showers overnight into Friday morning in other parts of Wisconsin resulted in minor accumulations and reduced visibility due to blowing and drifting snow. Despite the unusual snowfall, the region experienced a picturesque white Thanksgiving with a few inches of snow covering the area.
