Multiple crashes were reported on Interstate 94 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Thanksgiving after a burst of snow formed due to steam coming from a nearby factory in Menomonie. The National Weather Service stated that the conditions were ideal for snow formation from super cooled water droplets, resulting in a narrow 100-mile plume of snow extending southeast from the factory. The dangerous road conditions led to the westbound lanes being shut down for several miles. Authorities have not provided information on the number of crashes or the extent of injuries. The factory responsible for the steam has not been identified. FOX 9 obtained footage of the aftermath of the crashes and is following up with Wisconsin officials for further details. The events were documented through a post from the National Weather Service and footage captured by a FOX 9 photographer. The incident serves as a reminder of the unforeseen consequences that industrial activity can have on weather and road conditions.
