The Wisconsin women’s basketball team (5-2) suffered a 73-67 loss to San Diego State University (7-0) in their opening game of the Cancun Challenge. Despite a strong performance from Serah Williams, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, the Badgers were unable to secure the win. Carter McCray also had a dominant showing with 9 points and 13 rebounds.
Wisconsin shot 44.4% from the field and 68.4% from the free-throw line, while holding the Aztecs to 42.4% shooting overall. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with the lead shifting several times throughout.
In the fourth quarter, the Badgers went on an impressive 17-0 run to shut down the Aztecs’ offense, but San Diego State responded to cut the lead to just three points. Lily Krahn hit a crucial three-pointer to bring the game within a single possession. The Badgers will face Providence next in the Cancun Challenge.
The game against Providence is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 29 at 10:00 a.m. (CT).
