The late Joe Wolf, a Kohler basketball legend who passed away last September, was honored by the Wisconsin high school team as they named their gymnasium after him. Wolf was a standout player for Kohler before playing for Dean Smith at the University of North Carolina and eventually having a successful 11-year NBA career. At the ceremony, attended by Wolf’s family and retired NBA broadcaster Jim Paschke, attendees wore replicas of Wolf’s jerseys and saw a mural unveiled in his honor.
Wolf’s basketball career was highlighted, including his time as a team captain for the Tar Heels and his stints in the NBA, playing for several teams before retiring in 1999. After his playing career, Wolf transitioned into coaching, working with various teams including the Wisconsin Herd in the NBA G League.
The current Kohler basketball team, seemingly inspired by the tribute to Wolf, began their season with a dominating win over Sheboygan Falls. The renaming of the gym in honor of Wolf serves as a reminder of his legacy and impact on the Kohler basketball community.
