Judge Rules Giuliani Must Attend Trial Instead of Trump’s Inauguration

A federal judge has denied Rudy Giuliani’s request to delay his court proceedings over handing over his assets to former Georgia election workers he defamed. The judge rejected Giuliani’s plea to postpone the trial in order to attend Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. Giuliani’s lawyer argued that his political right to be at the event warranted a delay, but the judge disagreed, stating that Giuliani’s social calendar was not a valid reason for postponement. During the hearing, Giuliani claimed he could not pay his bills because his assets were frozen due to the defamation judgment against him.

Giuliani has been embroiled in a legal battle with Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss over his assets, following a $150 million defamation judgment against him. He has been slow to hand over his property, including a Mercedes-Benz and his New York City apartment. The women’s attorneys have accused Giuliani of not fully complying with court orders.

The trial to determine if Giuliani must surrender his condo in Palm Beach, Florida, and his World Series rings is scheduled just days before Trump’s inauguration. Giuliani is appealing both the asset turnover order and the defamation verdict. He continues to falsely accuse Freeman and Moss of election tampering, leading to further legal action.

After the hearing, Giuliani criticized the judge’s political background and reiterated that he does not regret defaming Freeman and Moss. He claimed to regret the persecution he has faced but stood by his actions. Giuliani’s trial is set to proceed as scheduled, with the judge insisting on prompt compliance with the court orders.
