Exploring Christmas Tree Farming in Wisconsin: A Review | News

Wisconsin’s diverse agriculture industry includes dairy, cranberries, and Christmas trees, with the state ranking fifth in the country for Christmas tree production. The Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producer’s Association estimates that nearly one million trees are cut each year, not including wreaths and greenery. Growing Christmas trees is a patient and year-round job, with some varieties taking up to 12 years to mature. Snowy Ridge Christmas Tree Farm in Westby, Wisconsin, has around 15,000 trees, with 1,200-1,500 available for sale each year.

The farm’s owners, Jeff and Moira Hastings, emphasize the hard work that goes into growing Christmas trees, but find joy in seeing families enjoy the holiday season. The farm offers a festive experience for visitors, including complimentary hot chocolate, cookies, and coffee on weekends leading up to Christmas. The opening day is on November 29th, with weekends being the busiest time. The Hastings recommend being prepared for crowds if visitors plan to cut their own tree on Thanksgiving weekend. For more information, visitors can check the farm’s website.
