With Thanksgiving travel season in full swing, AAA Wisconsin reports a record number of Wisconsinites hitting the roads and skies this year. Approximately 1.4 million people are driving for Thanksgiving, while 132,999 are flying. Nationwide, about 79.9 million people will be traveling at least 50 miles from home during the next week.
Gas prices in Wisconsin are averaging $2.80, but economic conditions, consumer confidence, and rising incomes are bigger factors in driving decisions this year. AAA recommends driving on the holiday itself or before 10 a.m. on Wednesday to avoid traffic.
With cold fronts and potential winter storms expected, airports could see delays. AAA’s Tow to Go program offers free rides home for those who have had too many drinks while celebrating.
Travelers are advised to stay updated on road and flight conditions, like using Delta’s app for updates. Despite the potential for delays, Wisconsinites are eager to reunite with loved ones this holiday season.
