A Colorado dentist, James Craig, accused of killing his wife by spiking her protein shake with poison is now facing two new charges, including solicitation to commit murder. The state’s 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced the additional charges, but details were not immediately available. Craig’s attorney withdrew from the case on the day jury selection was set to begin, citing professional conflicts and concerns about criminal or fraudulent behavior by the client.
Angela Craig, the victim, died from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline poisoning, found in over-the-counter eyedrops. She had been married to James for 23 years and had gone to the hospital with severe symptoms before her death. Prosecutors revealed that James had started an affair and had searched online for ways to make murder look like a heart attack or hide arsenic in an autopsy.
The couple’s relationship had been troubled for years, with James having affairs and Angela expressing a desire to leave him. At the preliminary hearing, James’s lawyers argued that there was no direct evidence linking him to the poisoning and suggested he had been searching online for ways to take his own life. It is unclear if James has retained a new lawyer to represent him in the case.
