Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., announced that he will not be rejoining Congress after withdrawing from consideration as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general due to sexual misconduct allegations. Gaetz stated that he has been in elected office for 14 years and is ready to pursue other goals in life, including focusing on his family. He expressed excitement at the prospect of new representation for his district in Florida and stated that he will continue to support President Trump in whatever capacity he is asked to. Gaetz emphasized that the allegations against him are false and an attempt to smear his reputation. He resigned from Congress last week after being selected by Trump for the attorney general position, but cannot return to the current Congress due to his resignation. Gaetz has been serving in the U.S. House since 2017 and was involved in the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House speaker. Despite the controversy surrounding him, Gaetz remains committed to fighting for his beliefs and supporting the causes he believes in.
