Leilani Simon of Georgia was sentenced to life in prison for the killing of her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon, whose remains were found in a landfill after being reported missing in 2022. The judge noted the impact of Quinton’s death on many individuals and the community. Simon was arrested and indicted on murder charges, with the prosecution alleging that she caused Quinton’s death with an unknown object and then disposed of his body in a trash bin. Simon was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, concealing the death of another, and other related counts. The sentencing amounted to life in prison with the possibility of parole, as well as an additional 10 years. Simon stood silently as the sentence was read by the judge, who closed the hearing with a wish for peace.
