Wisconsin Women’s Swimming Team Shines at Texas Invite
Austin, Texas – The No. 10 Wisconsin women’s swimming team kicked off the Texas Invite with a standout performance, securing an NCAA "A" cut in the 400 medley relay and achieving 13 NCAA "B" cuts across various events.
The relay team, consisting of Maggie Wanezek, Hazal Ozkan, Phoebe Bacon, and Hailey Tierney, clocked in at 3:30.19, which not only earned them the "A" cut but also placed them second all-time at the University of Wisconsin.
Individually, Hailey Tierney and Abby Wanezek also impressed, achieving "B" cut times in the 50 freestyle with Tierney finishing at 22.15, ranking seventh in the UW history, while Wanezek touched the wall at 22.51.
Phoebe Bacon continues to showcase her talent; she previously secured a qualifying time in the 200 IM and was joined by Callahan Dunn, Katie McClintock, Hazal Ozkan, and Maggie Wanezek, with Bacon’s impressive time of 1:55.37 placing her third on the UW all-time list.
In the 500 freestyle, six Badgers achieved "B" cuts, led by Abby Carlson, whose time of 4:37.62 places her fourth in UW’s history.
Wisconsin’s 200 free relay team, featuring Tierney, Wanezek, Bacon, and Carlson, finished with a time of 1:28.67, just two-tenths shy of the "A" cut, landing them tenth in the all-time rankings.
The Badgers are set to continue their competition, with preliminary events kicking off tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Texas and 10:30 a.m. in Georgia, with finals scheduled for the evening.
This promising start raises excitement for what the remainder of the Texas Invite holds for the Wisconsin swimming squad.
