Wisconsin Republicans show support for Trump’s cabinet picks

Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden has thrown his support behind President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial pick for Attorney General, Matt Gaetz, despite not always seeing eye-to-eye with him in the past. Other Wisconsin Republicans in the U.S. House, such as Rep. Glenn Grothman and Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, have also voiced their support for Gaetz.

However, Democratic Representative Mark Pocan is calling on the House Ethics Committee to release a report on Gaetz’s alleged sexual misconduct, which has been under investigation for years. Gaetz denies any wrongdoing. Some Republican senators, including Sen. Ron Johnson, have expressed interest in reviewing the report before confirming Gaetz.

In addition to Gaetz, Trump has also nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist, to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Despite concerns from public health officials about Kennedy’s views, Senator Johnson is in favor of the pick.

Confirmation hearings for Gaetz, Kennedy, and other Trump nominees will begin after the new Congress is sworn in early next year. The Senate, which will be controlled by Republicans in January, will ultimately decide whether to confirm these controversial picks.

Overall, the nomination process for Trump’s Cabinet picks has sparked a mix of support and concern among lawmakers in Wisconsin and across the country. The coming weeks will reveal how these nominations will play out in the Senate.
