Hazardous Weather Alerts for South Central and Southeast Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A moderate to heavy snow burst is impacting travel in South Central and southeast Wisconsin this morning, creating hazardous conditions on the roads. Snowfall is expected to lead to slushy accumulation, reduced visibility, and strong winds throughout the morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service, a low-pressure system to the east is pulling moisture into Wisconsin, resulting in snow as the precipitation meets colder air. Mixed conditions will be common, especially during the morning commute, with temperatures anticipated to rise above freezing, ultimately transitioning the snow to rain as the day progresses.
In addition to the winter weather, strong northwesterly winds are predicted, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued two advisories for Southern Wisconsin: a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 6 AM until noon, and a Wind Advisory in effect from 9 AM until 6 PM.
As the weather system moves farther east, the precipitation is expected to cease by this evening. Following this storm, the remainder of the week will bring a more tranquil weather pattern with a mix of clouds and sun, alongside temperatures forecasted to reach the lower to mid-40s as the week progresses into next.
Residents are encouraged to download the First Alert Weather app to stay informed about the evolving weather situation and ensure safe travel during this morning’s hazardous conditions.
Stay safe and plan your travels accordingly as you navigate through this winter weather.
