Winter Weather Advisory Issued: Snow and Wind Expected Today
A Winter Weather Advisory is currently in effect from 6 AM to noon today as residents brace for accumulating snowfall and hazardous road conditions. Snow began falling from the north overnight, accumulating a light dusting, but heavier snowfall is anticipated this morning. Motorists are advised to exercise caution during the morning commute, as snow is expected to accumulate 1-2 inches around Milwaukee and potentially 2-4 inches further north and inland, particularly in elevated areas like the Kettle Moraine.
In addition to the snowfall, a Wind Advisory is also in place today from 9 AM to 6 PM, with gusts reaching as high as 45 mph. These strong winds are likely to create significant wind chills, making temperatures feel like the teens and 20s this morning. Weather conditions will improve as the snow transitions to rain by midday, allowing for better travel conditions as temperatures rise to near 40 degrees.
Tonight, rain showers will conclude, with overnight temperatures remaining above freezing, significantly reducing the risk of refreezing on roads. Looking ahead, Friday is expected to be cloudy and breezy with a high of 47 degrees. The upcoming weekend will see partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures, with highs in the 40s, perfect for hunters as gun deer season kicks off.
