First Snowfall Causes Traffic Disruptions in Southeast Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE – Southeast Wisconsin is experiencing its first measurable snowfall of the fall, leading to significant traffic disruptions across the region, particularly on the freeway system in and around Milwaukee.
I-94 westbound at Highway 26 in Johnson Creek is closed due to a crash, although it is not yet confirmed if road conditions contributed to the incident. If the closure remains in place throughout the morning, it could exacerbate delays for commuters. Meanwhile, Waukesha County has also reported issues, with two right lanes blocked on I-94 eastbound near County Road F due to another collision. Additionally, a crash on I-43 near Racine Avenue has blocked the right shoulder and parts of the right lane.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of Southeast Wisconsin until noon. Winds are expected to gust up to 45 miles per hour due to a Wind Advisory in place from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Those near Lake Michigan may see 1-2 inches of wet snow, while areas further inland could receive up to 4 inches. Fortunately, forecasters anticipate that the snow will transition to rain by midday, improving driving conditions as temperatures rise to around 40 degrees. Low temperatures tonight are expected to remain above freezing, mitigating the risk of icy roads.
WTMJ will provide continuous updates on road conditions and weather impacts throughout the morning, urging residents to stay cautious while navigating the winter weather.
