ICC authorizes arrest warrants for Israeli PM Netanyahu, Gallant, Deif for alleged war crimes in Gaza

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif for crimes against humanity and war crimes related to actions taken from October 2023 to May 2024. The charges include the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and intentionally directing attacks against the civilian population. The ICC found that Netanyahu and Gantz knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of essential items such as food, water, medicine, fuel, and electricity. This hindered humanitarian organizations from providing aid to those in need. ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan had previously announced plans to seek arrest warrants for these individuals and other senior Israeli officials. The court also issued a separate arrest warrant for Deif, who was allegedly involved in attacks in Gaza. Arrest warrants for Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh were withdrawn following confirmation of their deaths. This situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
