Wisconsin DSPS Warns of Resurfaced License Scam Targeting Professionals

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) has issued a warning to license holders about a resurgence of a scam that has been reported this week. Several individuals have received unsolicited phone calls from a man impersonating a DSPS investigator, claiming there is an issue with their license linked to suspected illegal activity.

In its advisory, DSPS emphasized that legitimate state regulatory boards and the department will never reach out to credential holders demanding payment to rectify or restore licenses. In light of these scams, the department urged members of the public to remain vigilant and not to provide any personal or financial information, regardless of any pressure or intimidation they may feel from the caller.

DSPS recommended that individuals who encounter such suspicious calls, texts, or emails should disregard the communication and report it immediately. Furthermore, license holders are reminded that they can easily verify their license status by logging into their LicensE account or using the public license look-up tool available on the DSPS website.

The agency has also directed individuals seeking more information on identifying fraudulent communications to visit the Scam and Fraud Tips page hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

In conclusion, the DSPS is taking this opportunity to reinforce public safety and security, encouraging Wisconsin’s professionals to remain cautious and informed about potential scams.
