Trump Nominates Sean Duffy, Former Wisconsin Congressman and Fox Host, as Transportation Secretary

Trump Nominates Sean Duffy for Transportation Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump announced Monday the nomination of former Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy as his transportation secretary pick, marking another addition to his Cabinet. Duffy, known for his reality TV fame and as a vocal supporter of Trump on cable news, served nearly nine years in the House, where he was a member of the Financial Services Committee and chaired the subcommittee on insurance and housing. After leaving Congress in 2019, he co-hosted "The Bottom Line" on Fox Business.

Duffy, married to Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, becomes the second media personality Trump has selected for his Cabinet, following his recent choice of Fox host Pete Hegseth as defense secretary. During his announcement, Trump praised Duffy’s experience and relationships in Congress, stating he would focus on enhancing the nation’s infrastructure and improving the travel experience for Americans.

Despite earlier ambitions to run for Wisconsin governor, Duffy stepped back to prioritize family responsibilities, caring for his nine children, one of whom has special health needs. Duffy’s political journey began with an underdog campaign in 2010 that gained attention for its rustic, lumberjack-themed ads.

If confirmed, Duffy will lead a crucial department amid significant changes in the transportation landscape, including rising traffic deaths and the advent of autonomous vehicles. Industry leaders, such as Nicholas Calio from Airlines for America, have expressed enthusiasm about Duffy’s appointment, citing his proven effectiveness in Congress.

Trump’s announcement indicates a potential shift in transportation priorities, particularly concerning electric vehicles, which he has criticized in the past. Duffy’s appointment signals Trump’s intent to address issues of safety, efficiency, and infrastructure rejuvenation in his administration.
