Wisconsin has made a major coaching change with just two games left in the season, as head coach Luke Fickell announced the firing of offensive coordinator Phil Longo. Longo’s air raid offense promised to modernize the Badgers attack but failed to deliver results in his two seasons with the team. Wisconsin’s struggles on offense have been evident, ranking 97th nationally in scoring and 102nd in passing this season.
Fickell stated that after evaluating the program, he decided a change was needed for the team to be successful. With starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke out for the season due to injury, sophomore Braedyn Lock has been leading the offense. Longo, who previously coached at North Carolina and Ole Miss, ends his stint at Wisconsin after 23 games.
The Badgers will face Nebraska on Saturday before closing out the season against Minnesota on November 29th. Despite the coaching change, Fickell remains committed to finishing the season strong and believes the team has the potential for success. With a losing record of 5-5, Wisconsin hopes to turn things around under new leadership as they aim for a strong finish to the season.
