Wisconsin Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde has conceded in his race against incumbent Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin and announced that he will not challenge the election results by requesting a recount. Hovde had previously mentioned that he was considering a recount due to “voting inconsistencies” but ultimately decided against it. He stated that without a detailed review of all the ballots and their legitimacy, a recount would serve no purpose.
As of Monday noon, Baldwin led Hovde by .9% with 99% of the vote counted. Despite his concession, Hovde reiterated claims of voting “inconsistencies,” including an “improbable” dump of absentee ballots in Milwaukee on Election Night that he believes favored Baldwin. He also accused Democrats of voter deception.
The Milwaukee Election Commission refuted Hovde’s claims, stating that his accusations lacked merit and that the election was fair and secure. Hovde plans to return to his work in business and expressed disappointment in the race’s outcome but said he did not regret running.
“While I am disappointed with the results, I do not regret entering this race,” Hovde said. “I’m passionate about our country and the future we are leaving our children and grandchildren.” Despite not winning, Hovde received more votes than any other Republican in Wisconsin history aside from President Trump.
Overall, Hovde’s decision to concede and not challenge the election results puts an end to a contentious race and allows him to focus on his businesses and other ways to make a positive impact.
