Kari Lake and an Arizona county election official settle defamation case

A defamation case filed by Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer against Kari Lake has been settled, with Lake’s lawyer confirming that the terms are confidential. Richer, a Republican, accused Lake of falsely accusing him of sabotaging the 2022 Arizona governor’s race, which she lost. Richer sought damages for being targeted with violence and threats due to Lake’s allegations. Lake, an ally of former President Trump, pushed false claims of winning the governor’s race and accused Richer of sabotage. Lake decided not to contest her liability in the lawsuit, stating that participating would legitimize a perversion of the legal system. Both Lake and Richer were defeated in subsequent elections after their legal dispute. Richer lost in the Republican primary for county recorder, while Lake lost in a Senate bid, both to Democratic opponents.
