Nebraska Aims for Bowl Bid in Final Home Game Against Wisconsin
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-5, 2-5) find themselves in a challenging position following a 28-20 loss to USC last weekend, marking their fourth consecutive defeat. With postseason aspirations on the line, the Huskers will host the Wisconsin Badgers (5-5, 3-4) this Saturday in a pivotal matchup that could secure bowl eligibility for the winner. This will be Nebraska’s final home game of the season, and head coach Matt Rhule indicates that 29 or 30 players will participate in the Senior Day ceremonies.
Despite the recent arrival of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, the Cornhuskers struggled offensively against USC, managing only 13 points, with the defense contributing a touchdown through a pick-six by Ceyair Wright. Nebraska’s red zone inefficacy was glaring, as they settled for two short field goals instead of capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
Wisconsin, coming off a narrow 16-13 defeat to top-ranked Oregon, has made a significant change in their coaching staff by parting ways with offensive coordinator Phil Longo. Longo’s Air Raid offense failed to gain momentum during his tenure in Madison.
As both teams seek a pathway to bowl eligibility, Nebraska has historically struggled against Wisconsin, with a disappointing record of 4-13 in past matchups and having lost the last 10. The Huskers’ last victory over the Badgers dates back to 2012.
Saturday’s showdown at 2:30 p.m. is set to be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. According to ESPN Bet, Nebraska is a slight favorite at 2.5 points, with an over/under set at 42.5. Fans and players look forward to a decisive clash in Lincoln as both teams vie for postseason glory.
