University of Wisconsin Teams Compete in NCAA Division III Football Championship
November 17, 2024 – INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has announced that the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and UW-Platteville have both secured spots in the NCAA Division III Football Championship, showcasing the talent within the Wisconsin college football program.
UW-La Crosse, with a record of 7-3, has received one of the 12 at-large bids available in the competitive 40-team field. The Eagles are set to host the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (7-3) in the first round of the championship. If victorious, UW-La Crosse will advance to face the unbeaten Saint John’s University (10-0) in the second round. This year marks a notable achievement for the Eagles, as they are making their fourth consecutive NCAA appearance and their 15th overall.
On the other hand, UW-Platteville (9-1) earned an automatic bid after clinching the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. The Pioneers will hit the road to challenge Wartburg College (9-1) in their second-round matchup, marking their return to the NCAA championship for the first time since 2016. This will be UW-Platteville’s third appearance in the NCAA playoffs.
The first round of games is scheduled for November 23, with the second-round contests following on November 30. All matches will kick off at noon, promising exciting moments for both teams as they aim for advancement in the championship.
