No. 1 Oregon Comes Back in the 4th Quarter to Defeat Wisconsin

Oregon Ducks Rally to Defeat Wisconsin Badgers 16-13 in Dramatic Finish

MADISON, Wisconsin — The top-ranked Oregon Ducks showed remarkable resilience, overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Wisconsin Badgers 16-13 at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday night. Atticus Sappington delivered the victory with a 24-yard field goal with just 2:36 left on the clock, marking Oregon’s 11th win of the season.

As the final quarter began, Oregon found themselves trailing 13-6 amidst the energetic "Jump Around" celebration earlier in the game. Coach Dan Lanning reflected on the team’s mindset, drawing parallels to Pavlov’s dog, stating, “When you hear that song, it means it’s time to go.” The Ducks took charge in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 unanswered points.

Oregon’s Jordan James was pivotal on the ground, rushing for 115 yards and scoring the tying touchdown early in the fourth. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel, although throwing for no touchdowns, completed 22 of 31 passes for 218 yards, showcasing the team’s depth even with missing key players.

Wisconsin, now 5-5 and struggling with a three-game losing streak, managed just one first down in the final quarter after initially pulling ahead with a touchdown and field goal. Coach Luke Fickell expressed pride in his team’s effort but stressed the need to finish strong in close games.

Despite the Ducks’ slow start and missed opportunities, including a first-and-goal interception, Oregon maintained control late in the game. Gabriel’s crucial completions and Sappington’s decisive field goals, including two earlier in the match, sealed the Ducks’ victory.

Oregon is set to host Washington in their regular-season finale on November 30, maintaining their No. 1 ranking in both the AP Top 25 and College Football Playoff standings. Wisconsin will look to rebound against Nebraska on November 23.
