Las Vegas police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old father, Brandon Durham, who had called 911 for help during a home break-in. Durham reported that two people were shooting outside his home and trying to break in while he was inside with his daughter. Body camera footage showed officers responding to the scene and encountering a struggle between Durham and a suspect, Alejandra Boudreaux. An officer shot and killed Durham after he allegedly had a knife, while Boudreaux was arrested and faces multiple charges.
The investigation is ongoing, with the officer’s use of force being reviewed according to the Supreme Court’s standard for use of force. The incident was believed to be targeted and not random. Durham’s daughter expressed anger towards the police for making her fatherless and described the violence that occurred during the incident.
The officer’s decision to use lethal force will take into account the perceived threat at the time of the incident. Durham’s daughter emphasized the extreme anger and violence displayed by the individuals involved.
