Middle-Class Families Finding Affordable Living in the Midwest, Study Reveals
A recent study by GOBankingRates suggests that middle-class families looking for affordable living may want to consider relocating to the Midwest. The research identifies 25 cities across the United States, predominantly in the Midwest, as ideal for comfortable living, based on a variety of economic indicators.
To determine the most livable cities for middle-class households, GOBankingRates employed data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey, and livability scores from AreaVibes. The analysis highlights cities with median household incomes that fit the middle-class definition, which ranges from two-thirds to double the median national income.
Among the findings, five cities in Wisconsin stood out for their livability for middle-class families. Although specific locations were not detailed, the emphasis on the Midwest suggests that these areas offer not just affordability but a balanced lifestyle, making them appealing for families aspiring to own homes and achieve financial stability.
The methodology behind the study involved removing cities with livability scores below 90 and analyzing factors such as senior population percentage, household income, and cost-of-living indexes. The research calculated average expenditure costs for a typical family of four and assessed home values using data from Zillow.
With many of America’s bigger cities facing soaring housing costs, this study indicates a significant trend where the Midwest may offer a viable alternative for families seeking both quality of life and financial sustainability. As the cost-of-living crisis continues, the allure of Midwestern cities is likely to grow, positioning them as prime contenders for families looking for a fresh start and a manageable lifestyle.
