More than 115 high school students from the region recently participated in Discover Engineering Day at Penn State DuBois. The event, organized by the Penn State Engineering Ambassadors Program and Penn State DuBois faculty and staff, aimed to introduce students to the field of engineering and inspire them with hands-on experiences.

Students engaged in various activities that showcased the practical and creative aspects of engineering beyond just math and science. Aerospace engineering student Maddy Kinevy expressed her hopes for the students to understand the real-world impact of engineering and the importance of problem-solving skills.

During the event, students were divided into groups and participated in engineering challenges led by the ambassadors. One activity involved coding and operating robots, which proved to be both challenging and exciting for the students.

Engineering students from Penn State also shared their college experiences during a panel discussion, offering advice and answering questions about studying engineering. The students were particularly motivated to work in teams and improve their designs throughout the day.

The event concluded with a campus tour where students had the opportunity to explore engineering labs and other facilities at Penn State DuBois. Overall, Discover Engineering Day was a success in showcasing the various paths within engineering and providing students with a hands-on experience that highlighted the field’s impact on the world.
